Abi Boatman, Advocate

Abi Boatman has been a passionate advocate for both queer equality and local civic engagement in Wichita for nearly 15 years. In that time, she has dedicated herself to her community in many forums, including the Wichita Public Library Board, the Proud of Wichita Chamber of Commerce, and her District Advisory Board, among others.

Abi credits her own transition and a desire to improve that experience for others as the catalyst for her advocacy work, which began with The Face of Trans, a project focused on highlighting trans people as multifaceted individuals.

As Development Director, Emily manages fundraising strategy for the ACLU of Kansas, growing revenue to support the civil liberties movement and engaging with donors who care deeply about freedom.

She joined the fundraising team in 2018 as Development Associate and now leads the department. Previously, she worked at Legal Aid of Western Missouri, coordinating volunteer attorneys, and served with AmeriCorps VISTA, a national service program focused on eradicating poverty in the United States.

Emily is passionate about changing systems that implicitly value the rights of certain populations over others – and cares especially about fighting the racism inherent in our criminal legal system.

She lives with her partner and child, and you’ll find her in most settings by following the sound of raucous laughter.

About Leading Kansas

Leading Kansas is a nonpartisan organization that stands for accountability, transparency, and the protection of freedoms. Our democracy is under attack—from government overreach to threats against the Rule of Law and

Constitutional checks and balances. Now is the time to unite, hold leaders accountable, and demand policies that serve the people, not politics. We cut through partisan noise, expose the real impact of policies, and take action through relentless advocacy and grassroots mobilization. Silence is complicity—we refuse to be ignored.
