About the event

Getting Your Affairs in Order Panel Discussion

Do you know that more than half of adults in the U.S. don’t have a will? Even if you don’t have a lot of wealth to distribute, a will is still important unless you want the state to decide where your assets go! In this informative panel discussion, you’ll discover how to prepare now for the inevitable, what paperwork you need to have in order, and what you need to do to protect your assets.

This is an excellent panel whether you're preparing for your own future or someone else's.

This event is open to the public, and everyone is welcome. The registration fee is $10 at the door or in advance.

We are meeting at Flying Pig Improv at 3203 E. Douglas Ave. from 6 to 8 PM.

Sponsored by Optometric Billings Solutions, optometricbilling.com, (316) 722-2021 and Flying

Panelists:

Robert Miller

Robert Miller is a native of Wichita, Kansas.  He and his husband, John, have enjoyed 20+ years together.  He completed his education at Wichita State University including a bachelor’s and master’s in social work with an emphasis in medical social work.  In fact, he is extremely honored to be part of the first graduating class of the then newly founded WSU Master of Social Work program in 2001.

Totaling 25 years of professional service, he started with Via Christi Regional Medical, now Ascension Healthcare, in June of 1999, in the Skilled Nursing Unit at St. Joseph Hospital and was cross-trained in CCU, ER, Family Practice, and the Birth Center.  This was the beginning of a career understanding the unique and special needs of the aging, tuning into life experiences that would eventually become a voice of advocacy for many underserved, silenced, and outside the public's line of sight.

In July of 2003, he took on a new challenge as Director of Community Outreach for a newly founded, family-owned, home health and hospice company call Faith Home Health and Hospice. Robert began to fine tune his voice as a community leader, overseeing social work services, bereavement services, community outreach projects and corporate citizenship activities.

After 8 years at Faith Home Health and Hospice, he added even more diversity to his professional experience by diving into the long-term care arena.  In March 2011 he joined another family-owned business, eventually becoming Senior Vice President of Company Development for ComfortCare Homes, serving Residents and families faced with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.  In this time, he led in all aspects of the business including developing innovative approaches to providing dementia care to Wichita and other communities across Kansas.

Today, he has come full circle, sharing his personal and professional experiences as a proud alumni and faculty member of WSU’s College of Health Professions, Public Health Sciences department, and Aging program, while also consulting on the development of aging programs for the university.  As well, he has started his own private care management company, CAREpitch, helping clients maneuver the complexities of the healthcare system for their aging family members.  And if that was not enough, at the age of 52 he started the process of completing an LSCSW (Clinical License in Social Work).

Robert has often answered the call to serve, sitting on various local and state boards. He is the cofounder and former Chair of the State Alzheimer’s Conference, once the 3rd largest in the country.  His passion to give back and advocate for change in his community lead to the honor of being asked to sit on the Governor’s Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Task force in 2019.  He continues to give of his time to various local organizations while pursuing his passion in working with the aging population, their caregivers, and all the joys that come with aging.
