About the event

Program: Fight Like a Girl

Help us raise money for the Wichita Family Crisis Center and learn how to protect yourself. Join Cindy Coughenour, founder of Fearless and Female, for an easy, hands-on, information-packed personal safety and self-defense program.

Fearless and Female teaches women, teens, and young girls how to recognize and avoid dangerous situations in their daily lives.  However, if fighting back is our only recourse, women need the motivation, skills, and confidence to fight back and survive!  Come join us and learn that "Fighting Like a Girl" is a really GOOD thing!

About the Speaker: Cindy Coughenour founded Fearless and Female in 2001 as a direct response to the murder of her childhood friend, Julie Ladd.  As a Professional Speaker and Self-Defense Advocate Cindy is certified and trained in many different forms of self-defense.

About the organization:  The mission of the Wichita Family Crisis Center is to eliminate domestic violence in our community by supporting survivors through shelter, education, and advocacy.

Formerly known as the YWCA Wichita, the Wichita Family Crisis Center is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation that began operations in 1907 as a chartered member of the YWCA USA. The first residence was established for single women who were traveling or staying away from home; women entering the workforce were provided with employment aides, and a lunchroom was opened for working women that provided an economical and well-balanced meal.

The organization opened the Women’s Crisis Center, Wichita’s first emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence, in August 1976 with the primary goal to empower, strengthen and stabilize families impacted by domestic violence.

In 2016, the organization officially changed its name to the Wichita Family Crisis Center to better reflect its local mission. The Wichita Family Crisis Center has an annual operating budget of just over $1 million and offers services for more than 1,200 individuals who are fleeing domestic violence in Sedgwick County, Kansas each year.
