Program: Ever since Wichita was a Cowtown in the 1870s, there have been many women of consequence, often behind the scenes, who have helped build our city, known as the “Peerless Princess of the Plains.” Join the Badass Women of Wichita to celebrate women who have shaped our past and who are making an impact today at our Badass Scavenger hunt! Solve clues and find locations to discover how these women have helped make Wichita a place we are proud to call home.
Here’s how it works: Register in advance at https://bit.ly/Scavenger424 to make sure you get a spot. $15 a person or $10 for members. You can also register at the door as space allows. Come with a team of 4 or fewer, or join with others to form a team that day. Men are welcome, too. Check in at 11:30 AM to get your Hunt sheet, gather your team to solve clues, and plot your driving route to prepare to set out for your adventure at noon. All clue destinations are less than 5 miles from downtown Wichita. Be sure someone on your team has a phone capable of taking photos and emailing them or uploading to Facebook. We’ll gather back at home base no later than 2 PM to tally the points, award prizes, and celebrate the winners! Cash bar and food are available to order.
About the Badass Women of Wichita Alliance Now entering its 4th year, this inclusive society was formed by Jill Miller of the Finishing School for Modern Women. Women of all ages meet to build community, empower women, and develop our badass selves. In our weekly events, women gather to learn from each other, have fundraisers to support local nonprofits, and celebrate our community of women helping women. Thank you to our sponsor, Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum! The Museum has been housed in Wichita’s original City Hall, a landmark building constructed in 1890 and is considered an exhibit in itself. A wide variety of the Museum’s exhibits showcase life in Wichita over the centuries, from the Wichita Indian tribe—whose name the town adopted— to the cowboys who drove their cattle here to the dawn of aviation and the City’s role as the Air Capital of the World.
