    Born to Inspire

I'm getting super excited about the upcoming Know Your Worth Women's Leadership conference coming up on September 27. This will be the fourth year for this empowering conference and the third year I've been co-chair with Denise Sherman. I think it may just be the best one yet. We have incredible speakers. I told you about our keynote speakers Tiffany Pham and Myrne Roe in a previous newsletter. As I've been working on the agenda for the conference, I am struggling to pick whi

    What a Week to Sparkle

The sky is the limit! Wow! What an incredible week it’s been at the Finishing School for Modern Women! I didn’t think there could be an experience this week, as extraordinary as we had at the Conversations of Color panel discussion, that I told you about in the last newsletter. I was happily wrong. Janet Federico of Thrive ICT and I debuted the new Picking up the Pieces class on Tuesday night, and it was equally awesome! Picking up the Pieces with Co-Teacher Janet Federico Yo

    Ceiling Breakers

Have you noticed? There’s a lot of Woman Power going on in Wichita! This makes me very happy. Maybe I’m mistaken, but I don’t remember this happening to this extent before. There are many women-based organizations gaining momentum, new leaders emerging, and many inspirational women stepping into passion projects to make our community better. It is so exciting to see women leading the way, in the spirit of comradery and collaboration – not competition. I think the Women’s Marc

    OVERWHELM!

Usually, it isn’t until I start explaining what I “do” when I meet someone new, that I start to feel overwhelmed. As I’m talking about all the professional endeavors and volunteer service I’m working on, even I start to wonder just how much one person can do. I used to start my professional bio with the phrase, “Jill D. Miller is a World Champion Plate Spinner.” I’m amused by the visual description of trying to keep all my plates, or responsibilities, spinning on the top of l

    Making Connections at EmpowerHer

WeKan Founder Marquetta Atkins and Headmistress Jill I’m late! Usually I like to spend Friday morning writing my weekly article, but this Friday I was at the Women Entrepreneurs of Kansas (WeKan) EmpowerHer Conference. This conference brought together a diverse group of about 75 women business owners to share information about available resources, work/life balance, lessons learned and more. I love taking time to attend conferences like this. Being able to connect to other wo

    Owning our Power

This is such an important time in our herstory. Could we be at a tipping point, on the verge of large, important changes in women’s equality? Reading Selma Hayek’s survivor story, in the New York Times article that came out last month, I was struck with a profound realization. All the stories of sexual abuse, are about much more than sex crimes. These are really stories about how women have been controlled and demeaned by people with power, since the dawn of time. It is impos

    Worthy Women's Club

You know, I’m just no good at saying “no.” I have been working on it, from strategies I’ve learned from the “Saying No” class we offer from time to time at the Finishing School. I am making progress. I think part of the problem is that I have a “fear of missing out,” otherwise known as FoMO, which is such a common issue, scientists have studied it. Even when I was a child, I never wanted to go to bed, concerned that I’d miss out on something good. I still stay up too late. So
